Jesus Christ was crucified on "Good Friday." We know a lot about this, mainly from all the scripture that we read. We know how Judas betrayed him, how Peter denied him, how Pilate could find no guilt, how he was beaten and mocked, and how he told "the disciple he loved" to take care of his mother.....and lots more. We can imagine the pain his disciples and family felt and the physical pain our Lord endured. There are many details that we can use to imagine what that day must have been like.
But what about the following day??
I was thinking this morning that if I had lived in that time period I would have woken up and thought, "My Lord is dead"
We know that Jesus told them he would return. There had been a lot of things that Jesus told them that they didn't "get" at first. Was this one of them?
How devastated they must of been!!!! What an incredibly long, and difficult day for them. I wonder if some questioned their faith. They were human and very vulnerable at this point. And I don't think they knew what their tomorrow was going to bring.
I think back at the troubles I have had and when I felt so alone. (Sometimes I felt his presence and sometimes I didn't, but I look back and know that he was ALWAYS there.) Is this how they felt?
As you go through the day, try to imagine what it was like for his disciples and followers. We know what happens next, but, although told, they probably had no idea the miracle and victory they were getting ready to be a part of.
Luke 24
1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' " 8Then they remembered his words.
He has Risen!!!!
