Have you heard of Hotprints??

It is a neat site where you can make a photo book once a  month for free.  They don't even charge shipping.  If you are like me and take a million pictures, it is a cool way to share them.  The book is similar to an Elementary school yearbook.  They put ads in the book, but not on the pages, they are inserts that you can take out.  This is how they are able to do it for free.  The website is http://www.hotprints.com/

Target-75% off V-day stuff

The Target in RMT has 75% off most V-Day stuff.  (I think some of the candy is still 50% off. )

I bought some wrapping paper for .89 . It was technically V-Day, but did not say Happy V- Day on it anywhere and will be great to wrap birthday presents in this year.

I got a skort for Holly for $1.24 that she can wear all year.  We also found some tights and socks for .50- $1.00 that she can wear all year.

I bought some candy and "stocking stuffer" type items that were $1.24 or less and will be great to have on hand for emergency gifts, treats or even the Samaritans Purse Shoebox program next Christmas.

If you are a teacher, Sunday School teacher, Scout leader or someone that works with kids in another capacity, look carefully through the Valentines sets that you would buy a child to pass out at school.  Many of them have stickers, tattoos, pencils, magnets etc....in larger quantities (20+) that would be a great "treat" for a child.

Make sure you check out the dollar bin in the front of the store.  All of the red dot items were 50% off.

Happy Shopping!!

A favorite Bible lesson

I've mentioned in my blog how important the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) is to me.  God has really spoken to me through this study of John.  I would like to share with you some of what I learned from one of the lessons.

John 6:16-21 and Mark 6:45-52
my brief version:
After feeding the 5,000 with the 5 loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus went to pray and sent his disciples, in a boat, to Bethsaida.
While in the middle of the sea, the disciples found themselves in a terrible storm. They were struggling and they were frightened.  Jesus saw them and immediately came to them, walking on water.  They did not recognize him and were scared that he was a ghost. He told them who he was and not to be frightened.  They let him in the boat and made it to the shore.

•Jesus sent his disciples in the boat and they wound up in a storm. 1. Just because we obey God, doesn't mean we won't experience struggles. 2.  Just because we experience struggles, doesn't mean God is displeased with us.

•Jesus immediately came to them.  Jesus is always there with us.

•They were frightened and did not recognize them.  How many times has Jesus come to us and we not "recognize" him?  Sometimes is it because we don't expect him to come in the form he has come in?

•They let him in the boat.  Have you let Jesus in your boat?

•They went to shore.  Letting Jesus in your boat guarantees that you will make it to shore.  You may not land where you think you should land, but you will get to shore.

heads up!

Harris Teeter is having super double coupons tomorrow.  This means they will double every coupon up to $1.99.  You must have a VIC card (free to sign up) and they only take 20 coupons per day.  Go to http://www.southernsavers.com to find a listing of the great deals!

(Big thanks to Ann Layton!! :) )

my BIG deal yesterday

If any of you checked out the websites I posted, you may have seen the Gillette razor/Oil of Olay deal at Target.
I had the coupons and I also had a $5 gift card from a Quaker Oatmeal deal last week.
I bought:     3 Venus Spa razors- $6.99 each(the sale price wasn't listed and it was tagged 8.64)
1 Gillette razor- 6.99 (also listed as 8.64)
3 Oil of Olay bath washes- 5.50 each

I used: 3-$2 off coupons for the Venus razors
1-$4 off coupon for the Gillette razor
3- buy one Venus razor get one Oil of Olay bath wash free

My total cost was-$44.46 + tax
after my coupons and $5 gift card, my cost was $12.96!!!
 but it gets better:
I got $15 back in gift cards(a $5 for every two razors I bought and a $5 for buying 3 Oil of Olay body washes)  Also: Oil of Olay has a rebate going on and I can send in for a $15 rebate for buying 3 body washes.  So I actually made a little money. :)

If you do any Target deals make sure you scan everything under their scanners in the store.  Sometimes it can be confusing what is qualified and what is not.  If you scan it, it will tell you if it qualifies for a $5 gift card.  It will also tell you the accurate price.

to  make yesterday even better, I found some t-shirts on sale for Holly- 2 were $1 each and one was .75.---very cool!

accountability

UPDATE:I'm down 2lbs. this week- wohoo!!!

Well I go back to the nutritionist today.  I'm not looking forward to it, because I have not done well this week.  In addition to a "hot date" Friday night(which was long overdue) :), we had a family gathering yesterday.  We do it every year and jokingly refer to it as the "Love Fest".  Mike has a big family and they all are wonderful cooks. Need I say more?

Money saving ideas

There are a ton of websites out there that can help you save money.  Many of them will best the weekly deals and then post where you can find additional coupons for those deals.  I am going to post links to some of my favorites, but do some searching on your own, too.  Like I said, there are a bunch out there.

To make it easier for me to find the coupons, I put a date on the front of my Sunday coupon insert.  Yesterday's paper only had one insert-Red Plum. I then clip what I know I will need to use in the next couple weeks and file the remainder of the insert.

Look over these websites and I will post more later.

trying to get back in the groove

After a LONG (several months) hiatus, I am ready to start blogging again.  I realize that it is difficult to blog about just one topic.  I got to the point that I just wanted to whine about how tough it is to loose weight and I didn't feel that was helpful to anyone.
I've had some significant experiences/changes since I last blogged and I am planning to focus on those.
•First, I am still seeing a nutritionist and I am down about 15 lbs total.  I wish it was more, but no one has invented calorie free/fat free m&m's yet so...............................
•Second, we have attempted to be MUCH wiser with our money.  The current economy has been challenging for us.  Raising three kids is a little on the expensive side, especially when you have to pay for your own health insurance.  We have become Dave Ramsey followers and I have become "coupon crazy"
•Finally, and most importantly, I have begun attending a weekly bible study, BSF.  I have been a Christian for over 30 years and have always gone to church.  This bible study has made me realize, though, that being a Christian is not enough.  I should live my entire life for him.

I'm not sure where this blog is going to lead.  It is definitely going to be an "ongoing work in progress".  At this point, I hope to share some health/food tips, share some money saving concepts, share deals I run across and share what God is doing in my life.
