I've mentioned in my blog how important the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) is to me. God has really spoken to me through this study of John. I would like to share with you some of what I learned from one of the lessons.
John 6:16-21 and Mark 6:45-52
my brief version:
After feeding the 5,000 with the 5 loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus went to pray and sent his disciples, in a boat, to Bethsaida.
While in the middle of the sea, the disciples found themselves in a terrible storm. They were struggling and they were frightened. Jesus saw them and immediately came to them, walking on water. They did not recognize him and were scared that he was a ghost. He told them who he was and not to be frightened. They let him in the boat and made it to the shore.
•Jesus sent his disciples in the boat and they wound up in a storm. 1. Just because we obey God, doesn't mean we won't experience struggles. 2. Just because we experience struggles, doesn't mean God is displeased with us.
•Jesus immediately came to them. Jesus is always there with us.
•They were frightened and did not recognize them. How many times has Jesus come to us and we not "recognize" him? Sometimes is it because we don't expect him to come in the form he has come in?
•They let him in the boat. Have you let Jesus in your boat?
•They went to shore. Letting Jesus in your boat guarantees that you will make it to shore. You may not land where you think you should land, but you will get to shore.
